Abstract
A simple system designed for the protection of the magnetron in the AN/MPQ-501 radar is described. The system, which contains power samplers for monitoring both incident and reflected power levels, disables the transmitter whenever arcing or any other high VSWR condition prevails in the waveguide. The equipment will turn off the transmitter if the VSWR exceeds a preset threshold value. This value is normally 2 : 1, but may be as low as 1.5 : 1.
