Abstract | A photometer which detects radiation from the night airglow in the wavelength range from 1 to 2 J.1. was designed, constructed, and tested. The visible hemisphere of the sky is scanned by the field of view of the photometer by means of a mechanical scanning base to determine whether spatial brightness variations occur in the infrared radiations from the night airglow. The system was tested throughout the night of June 21/22, 1965 and was found to perform satisfactorily. Preliminary results indicate that the brightness of the infrared radiation from the night airglow in the wavelength range from 1 to 2 J.l. may vary considerably in different azimuth directions at the same elevation angle. |
