Abstract	This paper examines the identified need and the process used in the development of the International Fire Engineering Guidelines. It also explains the importance of the proposed document structure to facilitate the application of the guideline in a variety of jurisdictions around the world. The objective of the paper is to highlight the importance of collaboration (both nationally and internationally) in the development of such guidelines.
