AbstractIn recent years the need for a standard system of classifying solid precipitation and fallen snow has become pressing. Mechanized transport over vast snow-ridden areas, the usefulness of accurate snow surveys in the mountain and upland regions of the world, and the intensified scientific study of lying snow - all these factors made it impelling to devise some reliable and simple method of reporting and recording snow.
